Important Update from John Cortese - 16 October 2022

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Notre Dame College will be closed on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 October. Please see message below from John Cortese:

Hi All,

These are certainly tough times that we are living in, and no two people or families are doing it the same. All our circumstances are different. However, I know as a Notre Community, we will support each other, get through these times and come out the other end stronger and with the knowledge that we can handle all things that are thrown our way.

In these tough times, lean on friends, families, teachers, staff at school, me - your Principal, for support, a quick chat or just to seek a re-assuring word that all will be well. Enact some mindfulness practices you have used previously, use quiet reflection, and prayer to help you also.

It is with regret I inform you that the College will be closed on Monday 17 October and Tuesday 18 October. My Leadership Team will meet tomorrow afternoon to discuss the impact of floods on opening/closing schools. We need to consider some flexible options which allow for all in different circumstances to participate in their learning, whilst also following the directives of the government to keep us all safe. We may need to do a mixture of both remote and face to face learning, assemblies, etc in the near future. I ask for the co-operation and understanding of all with whatever decisions we make.

Many staff have contacted me about getting back to work in some form, as they see it vital for their wellbeing and the wellbeing and learning of students. I totally agree with these staff comments. I have mentioned many times that there is no greater joy than face to face schooling. The benefits for all, emotionally, educationally and spiritually, are enormous when we are together as a school community.

For all students preparing to start VCE exams in the coming weeks, please continue to be focused on your exam preparation. Do past papers, seek teacher assistance and discuss work with your classmates.

For all Year 12 students, we are working on how best to ensure we can share some special moments with you all in this final week. We will be in touch with details of plans as we are able to make decisions about the activities that finish off your time at our great College, so that you can clearly see a successful end to your time at Notre Dame College, and you can officially step into the world of further study, work, apprenticeships or whatever your future holds.

I certainly hope all are safe. Look after yourselves. I will stay in touch.

Keep well
Keep safe
