Uniform Changeover

Between Monday 16 September and Friday 11 October students may wear either FULL Winter OR FULL Summer uniform.

All students are to be in full and correct Summer uniform from Monday 14 October.

Scarves are not permitted from the beginning of Term 4 and hats are required from the first day back in October.

Please make sure you are checking the weather forecast each day as there are 1 or 2 colder days still possible during this time.

New Uniform Code

Our transition requirements and updated uniform codes are now available on our website:

https://www.notredame.vic.edu.au/ndc-community/uniform.

Students in Years 7 and 10 in 2025 are required to be in new style uniform items with the exception of the wool jumper and soft shell jacket. Students in Years 8, 9, 11 and 12 can wear the older style items and replace these with the newer style items when they are outgrown or outworn up until the year level when required to be fully wearing the new uniform styles.

For example, if a Year 8 student has outgrown their grey shorts they are able to purchase the new navy style shorts and wear them with the older style shirt until they start Year 10. Previous style items are currently still available at Noones uniform shop at 50% off normal prices while stocks last. There are also many secondhand items available at the sustainable schools website https://www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au/

For the remainder of 2024, we acknowledge that for Year 9 students, there will be a need for some flexibility as some new uniform items may not be available until early November and students may have already grown out of summer uniform items. We ask that in these cases, parents supply a note to request a uniform pass for their child to wear other uniform items eg: PE uniform or winter uniform items until they are able to purchase the replacement new style items. A hybrid version uniform of old and new styles is permissible for these students until the beginning of 2025.

Thailand Immersion 2025 - Year 11

Notre Dame College is pleased to announce the return of our Immersion programme for 2025. This programme will be available to Year 11 students (2025) and aims to ‘immerse’ them in another culture. The College will be partnering with Catholic Mission to offer two immersion experiences in Thailand in 2025.

Thailand Immersion Group 1: 27 June – 6 July 2025
Thailand Immersion Group 2: 11 July – 20 July 2025

A Catholic Mission Immersion is an educational programme designed to provide students with the experience of immersing themselves in a local community and culture, to gain an understanding and appreciation of cultures different from their own, viewed from a faith perspective. The students will spend time ‘being with’ the local people in their daily routines. The experience is designed to ‘be with’ others, listening and learning. We do not visit in order to help or ‘do for’ others. The experience is not designed around service work in the community. The actual day-to-day itinerary is developed in partnership with the hosting community. The hope is for students to return with newfound friends, to develop a stronger sense of self, understand their place in the world, and consider the direction their lives might take. They learn the importance of living simply and walking humbly in their life journey.

Students will need to apply for the privilege of attending one of these trips and the following points outline our expectations for those who participate in an immersion trip:

• Complete and return the Expression of Interest Form to the school by Friday 20 September 2024
• Attend the Parent and Student Information Evening on Wednesday 9 October 2024 in the Bishop Joe Grech Centre
• Complete an Application form by Monday 14 October 2024.
• Ability to cover the cost of the trip $4,700
• Willingness to participate in some social justice activities at Notre Dame College (specific details to be provided)
• Be involved in pre and post immersion trip workshops
• Be an active participant in the activities while on the trip (specific details to be provided)

These trips are usually oversubscribed, so in addition to the above requirements, students may have to go through a selection process which will include an interview prior to being chosen.

The Parent and Student Information Evening will be held in the Bishop Joe Grech Centre on Wednesday 9 October 2024 from 7:00pm – 8:00pm and will provide you with important details about the Immersion Experience and offer an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Attendance at the information night is a crucial step in selecting students for this experience, so we encourage you to make every effort to attend if your child is genuinely interested in this trip.

Please complete and return the Expression of Interest form if you are interested in attending this evening.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact jason.guiliani@notredame.vic.edu.au

Tree Planting

On Monday 26 August students had the opportunity to plant trees and various plants at the Yakka Basin in Shepparton.

Students also learned valuable information about the benefits of plants such as how they improve air quality and provide habitats for wildlife.

By participating in the day, the students contributed to a healthier planet while gaining valuable knowledge and a deeper appreciation for nature.

Year 10 Ball

Thank you to all families for supporting this special event, buying dresses and suits, shoes, accessories and all the rest.

A special thanks to all staff involved in making this event such a highlight. It truly is one of those nights the students look forward to, and remember fondly of their time at Notre Dame College.

Lastly, a shout out to Maree Geisler who once again has gone above and beyond preparing the students for their special night, we are so grateful for you and the time you spend teaching them their dances.

Called to Action Classes

Notre Dame College recently hosted State Member for Shepparton Kim O'Keeffe MP to address our Year 11 Religious Education: Called to Action classes.

The Year 11 students have been studying homelessness and the impact it has on some people's lives, as well as their families and friends. Students were challenged to take action, such as raising awareness or donating unused clothes to St. Vinnies and The Salvation Army.

Some students chose to write a letter to our local MP Ms Kim O’Keefe to which she responded with an insightful and informative talk to our students about what is being done to help the homeless in our region. Kim also spoke on her life's journey from growing up in Shepparton to becoming Mayor and a State Parliamentary representative.
