Notre Dame Careers Service – Term 1 Opportunities for Students and Parents

Welcome to an exciting new year with Notre Dame Career Services! We are committed to helping students explore their future career pathways and make informed decisions about their education and employment opportunities.

Our team provides guidance, resources, and connections to programs that support career development, including work experience, university entry pathways, and industry insights.

To support our students in Term 1, we have a variety of events lined up. We encourage students and parents to engage with these opportunities and begin planning for their future.

Upcoming Careers Events – Term 1

· Aspire & Active Volunteering Info Session (Yr 10 – 12) Learn about La Trobe University’s Aspire program and how volunteering can enhance university entry opportunities. This session will guide students on how to apply and make their experiences count towards their future studies.

· Defence Force STEM Program – February 25 & 26 (Yr 7 – 12) Students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) can explore career pathways within the Australian Defence Force. This program offers insights into the diverse and innovative opportunities available.

· Monash Mentoring Program Launch – March (TBC) (Pre-selected students) This program provides students with mentoring support from Monash University professionals and students, offering valuable insights into university life, career pathways, and industry experiences.

· Year 10 Career Conversations – February 24, 25 & 27 (La Trobe University) (Yr 10 – I & E Classes) A valuable opportunity for Year 10 students to engage in career discussions, explore study options, and start shaping their subject choices for future career pathways.

· Careers & Employment Expo – February 20 (TBC) (Yr 11 VCE VM Students) This expo is a fantastic opportunity to explore different career options, meet industry representatives, and learn about various pathways into employment and further education. Stay tuned for confirmation on attendance.

· Police Information Session – March (Yr 10 – 12) Students considering a career in the police force can attend this session to gain insight into recruitment processes, required skills, and career progression opportunities within Victoria Police.

· Women in Trades – March (TBC) (Yr 10 – 12) A fantastic event designed to encourage and support young women considering careers in the trades. This session will feature industry speakers, apprenticeship information, and hands-on activities.

Additionally, we offer a limited number of before and after school appointments for those who require flexibility in scheduling. Our Careers Team is available to support students across both Knight Street and Emmaus Campuses.

Career News Update – February 2025

Notre Dame College is pleased to provide parents and students with key updates from the latest Career News edition. Below are some important highlights:

· Victorian Careers and Employment Expo – Taking place from 20 to 22 March 2025, this event is an excellent opportunity for students to explore various career pathways.

· Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 – The University of Melbourne and Monash University remain among the top-ranked universities in Australia.

· Discover Medicine Webinar (Monash University) – Scheduled for 18 March 2025, this online event will offer insights into the Medicine program, including course structure, placements, and entry requirements.

· Tuckwell Scholarship for 2026 – This prestigious Australian National University (ANU) scholarship provides financial and development support for high-achieving students. Applications open in early March 2025.

· University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) Updates – Students intending to pursue medicine, dentistry, or clinical science degrees should note changes to the UCAT format for 2025. Bookings open on 4 March 2025.

· Maria Island Marine Biology Experience – Year 11 and 12 students interested in marine science can apply for this 5-day immersive experience in Tasmania. Applications close on 24 February 2025.

Biomedical Engineering Careers – A feature on the career prospects and educational pathways for students interested in Biomedical Engineering.
