What to do if your child is unwell

Contact the school to advise your student is unwell:

There is no need to keep your child home with the common cold if they seem well.

If your child has COVID-19, you should stay at home for at least five days or until you have no symptoms.

Speak to your child’s GP if symptoms worsen.

If your child is experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms they should be excluded from school until symptoms have ceased for 24 hours.

Terra Tomadachi Climate Change Forum

On Wednesday 1 May, five students from our Terra Tomadachi group had the incredible opportunity to attend a climate change forum in Melbourne. The group travelled by train, which added some adventure to their journey.

Sustainability Leader Piper Canning provided more details:

"Throughout the day, we engaged in stimulating discussions about actionable steps to combat climate change. It was inspiring to brainstorm ideas on how we can make a difference, both individually and collectively.

One of the highlights was our collaborative effort to envision a school of the future, set in the year 2050. We designed a school that operates sustainably, with features like relying solely on the green bin, fostering a culture of zero tolerance for bullying, and harnessing the power of solar panels for energy needs.

The experience was not only educational but also empowering. Each of us walked away with valuable insights that we're eager to share with our entire group. Mia, Cidra, Grace, Anna, Mr. Guthrie, and myself feel immensely grateful for the opportunity to attend this forum. We're already looking forward to participating again in the future.

I believe our discussions and insights from the forum were incredibly beneficial for both students and teachers alike." ~ Piper Canning

Bus stop closure and Relocation - LEMNOS bus AM only- for URGENT attention

Attention Parents,

A safety concern has been raised about the AM bus stop on the Lemnos STS at Verney Rd and Trinity Drive. The School Bus Planning Team have endorsed the removal of this bus stop based on safety grounds.

The stop is located on the east side of Verney Road, and this change will impact the MORNING route only.

The Verney Rd/Trinity Drive AM stop will no longer be used, from Monday 13 May 2024.

Closure of the stop impacts Notre Dame Students only.

Dysons will create a notification to hand to students that currently access the AM Verney Rd/Trinity Drive stop so they are aware of the change and their new travel option.

From Monday 13 May NDC students will access the Trinity Drive Bus in the morning only (NOT the Lemnos Bus). The students can choose between two stop locations:

8:15am – outside 24 Trinity Drive (second house after Xavier Cres)

8:16 am – outside 14 Trinity Drive (before Verney Rd)

The Trinity Drive bus, which currently terminates at GSSC, will now continue to Skene St to enable travel for NDC students.

There will be no changes to the current travel arrangements in the afternoon.

Please note, the printed timetable for the Trinity Drive Bus on the NDC website will now be INCORRECT, with the endorsed change not yet reflected. I will endeavour to have this updated and circulated as soon as possible.

Do It For Dolly Day

Friday 10 May marked Do It For Dolly Day, a national day in memory of Dolly Everett who tragically took her own life, aged 14 years, due to ongoing bullying and cyberbullying.

At Emmaus, the Year 9s commemorated Dolly and her dream for a kinder and safer Australia through a number of activities.

During morning PG, each house community completed an activity regarding bullying and explored the meaning and vision behind Dolly's campaign. Additionally, the Café team, Ms Berry and students baked over 300 cupcakes for the campus with blue icing to raise awareness around the effects of bullying.

A wonderful effort by all involved.

NDC Mother’s Day Breakfast Celebration

Last Wednesday students woke early to celebrate their significant mother figures with a wonderful Mothers Day breakfast. The breakfast was held within the picturesque north side courtyard amongst the colourful autumn leaves. Please enjoy the lovely smiles from this day.

Year 7 Humanities

Students are currently embarking on an enriching journey through history during Terms 1 & 2, delving into the captivating world of Ancient Egypt through the construction of their museum display projects.

From crafting detailed scale models of pyramids to recreating everyday artifacts with meticulous precision, our students are not only learning about the rich history of this civilization but also engaging in hands-on exploration.

The excellence of their work is evident in the variety of topics explored, ranging from pyramids and mummification to inventions, wars and conflict, food, fashion, and beauty.

These immersive projects not only showcase their understanding of daily life in Ancient Egypt but also foster critical thinking and creativity among our students. As we witness their enthusiasm and dedication, we are proud to see them embrace this journey of discovery in the classroom!

Careers Focus & Goal Setting Workshop

On Monday Our Careers team collaborated with Networking African Australians to deliver a Career Focus and Goal Setting workshop catered to year 10-12 multicultural students interested in the Health and Mental Health careers.

Our students were fortunate enough to have special guest speakers such as Neema Mukasa, a former student who is currently working as a Registered Nurse at GV Health, Ali Al Battaat, Founder and CEO of GV All Abilities Care who holds a Bachelor of Human service & Master in Social, and Marwa Mohamed Ahmed a graduate of Biomedicine at La Trobe University and holds Certificate III in Dental Assisting at Holmesglen Institute.

This valuable workshop provided students with opportunity to ask important questions and explore different career pathways relevant to them.
