Year 7 Science - Deep Blue

To celebrate the final weeks of Year 7 Science in 2023, students have been participating in an escape room under the sea called “Deep Blue”.

The prompt of the escape room is:

As crew in a submerged research vessel, students will complete a series of challenges to be able to switch to the emergency battery and turn the lights back on.

It is an activity designed to enhance the students’ knowledge of different ecosystems by completing 10 activities related to the deep sea. Along the way, they'll learn about ocean exploration and innovations for the future of our oceans. To solve each challenge, they will need to draw on their scientific knowledge from a range of different disciplines.

The students are having a ball with Jake saying "Number 9 was the best activity. You add some sort of liquid to saltwater causing it to turn a different colour. The best decoration was the shark and the advice I would give to the next class would be to work as a team and make sure everyone is involved.

Jayda and Delilah said “We think activity 10 is the best because it was fun to try and identify the sharks and it wasn’t too hard to understand. Our favourite decoration in the room was the inflatable shark with the albert Einstein on its back, it made it feel more like we were under the sea, and our advice for the next class is to be patient and keep persisting even if it gets difficult and you feel like giving up”.

Even though there were a few difficult challenges, it was all done in good fun and in the name of science!

Awwaab said: “I liked Activity number 2 because we saw how the submarine goes into the water and how it comes back out, which was fun to see. Aryan and l really loved doing this activity instead of regular science.

Thank you, Mrs Hamilton and the other staff involved in creating such an awesome experience, we really enjoyed it”.
