A big welcome back from Rosie and Poppy to our Notre Dame College Community.
School returns on Monday, 2 October, and we look forward to seeing everyone refreshed from their break and ready for the term ahead.
Best of luck to our Year 12's for their final push (you're nearly there!) and a reminder to bring your hats on Monday!
This is the final week of the uniform change over period. This means students may choose to wear their Summer or Winter uniform this week (not a combination of the two). Scarves are part of the Winter uniform and these are not to be worn as part of the Summer uniform.
Students must be wearing the full uniform by Monday 9 October 2023.
If students have grown over Winter, please ensure that their items are an appropriate, professional length and suitable for school. If your student require new items, the uniform shop hours are available on the website.
It is now Term 4, which means that hats must be worn during recess and lunchtime. Please also look at the condition of student hats and arrange a replacement if required.
The Luigi Gigliotti Scholarship came into being after Notre Dame College was privileged to receive a grant of money from the Estate of a deceased member of our community, who had always held the College in high esteem.
The enduring legacy of invested monies will continue to generate funds for Year 12 student scholarships for tertiary study long into the future.
The intent of this Scholarship is to support students in regard to significant financial constraints that would prevent their family from being able to send their son/daughter to university, or who may face financial difficulty in being able to keep their son/daughter at university.
The Luigi Gigliotti Scholarship may be awarded to an applicant(s) after taking into consideration a range of the following criteria:
· Financial hardship
· Proficiency and application to studies
· Sport and community involvement
· Funds will be presented privately to successful applicant(s) upon receipt by the College of confirmation of the applicant’s enrolment into a university course
Scholarship Applications must be endorsed by the current Year 12 student’s Head of House and are to be handed into Student Reception at the College or directly to Mr. John Cortese by no later than
Friday 17 November, 2023.
Application forms are available for students to collect from Student Reception.
Notre Dame student, Katelyn Trevaskis, was one of the five talented winners of the ‘A Cup of Shepp and GV’ competition.
"My piece depicts the famous Murchison Meteorite falling over the main street of Murchison. The Murchison Meteorite has lead to many incredibly important discoveries in the scientific world that have helped us understand more about the universe we live in".
Inspired by our diverse community and its people, this contest aimed to showcase the hidden talents in the community, with the opportunity for participants to create artwork representing some of the unique towns found within the region and have it celebrated through a limited-edition print run of coffee cups to be featured in cafes and restaurants across the region.
Katelyn was invited to attend an awards ceremony on 15 September where the 5 winning artworks were revealed and prizes presented. Congratulations Katelyn on your first place win with your stunning art "Cosmic Home".
Verney Road School held its annual debutante ball on 12 September.
Eleven Verney Road students, with partners from the Academy of Sport Health & Education Daya, Greater Shepparton Secondary College, Notre Dame College and Goulburn Valley Grammar School were presented.
Congratulations to our Notre Dame Students Jesse Prentice and Murray Pattison who volunteered to partner two of the debutantes on the night.
Last week, the Year 10 Formal was held. Each year, the success of the Formal is directly linked to staff member Maree Geisler, who teaches the dances and plans the night.
Maree has unwavering patience and a strong commitment to create a positive experience for all students.
Year 10 students, Oscar Lambourn and Keelan Phillips thanked Maree on behalf of the Year 10 cohort for all of her hard work and dedication. Thank you, Maree!
The 2022/2023 VET Health students celebrated their last formal day of classes in LaTrobe University’s new state of the art nursing simulation lab. The day consisted of practical assessments and also a celebration of the students hard work and achievements over the last two years.
These students are the first group of VET Health students to undertake the course which is delivered in partnership with LaTrobe university and GV Health. Students have demonstrated huge growth in not only the areas of skills and knowledge, but also in maturity, accountability and camaraderie.
The VET Health course has supported many of these students to identify future pathways including nursing, paramedicine, pathology collection and paediatrics.
As a school community, we congratulate each of you and wish you all the best in the next steps of your learning and career journey.
Year 9 – 11 students participated in a Engineering immersion day run via our Careers team here at Notre Dame College.
It was a fun day full of activities challenging students to think differently and solve a set of activity-based problems. Students were also fortunate to get a glimpse into the facilities including the Water, Civil and Industrial Engineering Labs. Students had to think critically and under time pressures around making a bridge or vessel to escape an island under attack by crocodiles and building the biggest tower with very limited resources. We were also fortunate to link in with Bendigo Tech School and be inspired by their STEM tutors.
A fun educational day was had by all, students now have a glimpse into Uni Life at La Trobe Bendigo Campus.
On Wednesday 13 September the Year 11 Religion and Society classes ventured to Bendigo to visit the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion and Scared Heart Cathedral with Mr Finn, Mr Giuliani and Zoe Hamilton.
The weather was very kind to us and the students loved the experience of the excursion.
On 15 September, MacKillop held their final House Assembly for Term 3. This assembly saw the conclusion of their fundraiser, and handing over of the cheque to the GV Health Children's Ward.
In total, MacKillop raised over $2200 for the Children's Ward.
GV Health's divisional operations director of the women’s, children and surgical units, Anna McPhillamy and GV Health nurse and child and adolescent unit manager, Paula Holland attended the assembly to receive the cheque and share with students and staff how the money raised is going to help the Ward at GV Health.
After the handover, MacKillop Heads of House, Mikaela Reeve and Gino Saracino, and Pastoral Group Leaders Wendy Raleigh and Hitaishi Grover faced pie throwing from students in an effort to further raise funds for GV Health. A great end to the term!
