Catholic Education Sandhurst has recently completed a review of the names of buildings, rooms, facilities, and programs across the entire Sandhurst Diocese. Following the review, we have received a request to rename two of our buildings.
Those buildings are the Monsignor Anthony Bones Hall and the Bishop Noel Daly Centre. It’s important to clarify that the requirement to change names has come about because of some historical abuse cases and whilst Bishop Daly and Monsignor Bones were not perpetrators of abuse themselves, they failed in a couple of instances to deal with issues that came across their desks, and so allowed injustice and abuse to continue to be unaddressed.
The Leadership Executive team in consultation with Father Joe Taylor have discerned this and have followed an approval process to rename these buildings.
Approval from Bishop Shane for building name changes has been received.

There will be some further work to inform the community of the changes, change the signage, College documentation, etc. and we will ensure that you remain informed of the progress as it gets underway.
At the commencement of Term 3, Notre Dame College implemented an update to their Personal Electronic Devices (PED) Policy. This update was well communicated to students, families, and staff via bulletin notices, posters around the College, announcements in the newsletter and parent letter.
Now that we are half way through the term, we would like to congratulate all students who have adjusted to this updated policy which means that students must store their mobile phone and other personal electronic devices in their locker between the first bell and the last bell of the school day. It also means that students cannot use smartwatches for contactless payments at the Canteen. We would also like to thank families for their support in implementing this updated policy, which is in accordance with the Department of Education Victoria guidelines.
When required, families can still make contact with their student by calling the Office, who will then pass on relevant messages in a timely manner. Similarly, students can also still make contact to their family via Student Reception at Recess and at Lunchtime.

Over the past week both of the 12OES classes completed three-day camps based at Mt Beauty, venturing up to Falls Creek for two days of downhill skiing. Whilst there was not enough snow for cross country skiing the third day was spent visiting the Bogong Hydro Electric power station and Mt Beauty information centre.
Students listened to educational talks about the construction of the Kiewa hydroelectric scheme and the more recent addition of the Bogong power station as well as Indigenous groups of the area and high country cattle grazing history. Students also walked through the Junction Dam wall which was built in the 1940’s – 1950’s.
Students had daily downhill skiing lessons and then skied in small groups over the available runs at Falls Creek. Both groups worked exceptionally well during the trips and are to be congratulated for their teamwork.
Many thanks to the staff who assisted – Myra Hardy, Kirrilly Knaggs and our PE / OES Trainee Toby Williams for their help over the three days.
