Dear Parents and Families,
The rapid evolution of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak continues to be a challenge for everyone in education. I am aware that it has caused concerns for parents, staff and students.
I am receiving regular updates from the CECV and Catholic Education Sandhurst, and am ensuring my school leadership and staff are aware of coronavirus reporting and management practices and are well-placed to respond as circumstances change. School leadership and our teaching staff are committed to ensuring that learning remains available to students as part of all students’ entitlement to access the Victorian curriculum.
When advice from the Chief Medical Officers changes, we will communicate those changes to our school community. We have plans in place to support students to learn from home, but while we remain open the emphasis will be on the learning and teaching currently in place in the classroom.
Changes to procedures and Cancellations
- Bishop of Sandhurst, Shane Mackinlay, has written to all Priests in the Diocese to inform them that all public liturgies are to be suspended, commencing immediately and will last until further notice.
- Parent Teacher Interviews on Thursday 26 March have been cancelled, they might be rescheduled in Term 2 if the opportunity presents.
- Students are being asked not to congregate inside buildings and around locker areas. Staff will manage this and ask students to move outside once they have had the opportunity to access lockers.
- We have stopped assemblies and other large gatherings at the College.
- The RSA course that was scheduled for Friday 27 March has been postponed until further notice.
- All Work Placement/Experience for students has been cancelled.
- School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships can continue in negotiation with the employer. We have already had some situations where the employer has cancelled these.
- We have introduced an additional process for registration and checking of visitors to the College prior to their entry.
- We have closed all college facilities to our afterhours users starting immediately. The closure includes the use of all buildings, grounds and ovals.
- VET students are still attending TAFE classes on Wednesdays.
Internet Access and Student Devices
We would like to know if there are students who do not have adequate internet to be able to engage in online learning. If your family does not have adequate internet at home for online learning please complete this quick survey.
It is important that students have a working device in the event of us moving to an online program. Students having difficulties with their device are encouraged to visit the Notebook Service Centre:
- Knight Street Campus- before school, recess, lunchtime and after school.
- Emmaus Campus – recess and lunchtime.
- Should have a backup of their work.
- Should update Chrome to the latest version. They will be able to do this while in chrome by clicking on the three dots on the top right and going to help -> about google chrome. Students will need to have restarted their device whilst at the College before they will be able to do this at home. If students have any trouble doing this they can get support at the Notebook Service Centre.
