Update from John Cortese – 18 October 2021

Good afternoon,

With the approach to dealing with positive cases changing quite significantly in the past days we have been able to contact all Primary Close Contacts and advise them of their requirement to isolate. We have also completed our required cleaning and will be able to return to onsite learning from tomorrow.

We understand that some of you may be feeling nervous about sending your child/ren to the College, and that is a very normal reaction to have. By ensuring your child wears a mask appropriately, being socially distant from others where possible and following our cleaning requirements in class, we are doing everything we can to ensure the continued safety of our staff and students and continue to work closely with GV Health, Department of Health and CES towards this.

As is always the case, our Heads of House and Wellbeing Team are available to support your child.  We also offer a range of general wellbeing resources and supports on the Wellbeing Support Service page of the College website If you would like to contact the Wellbeing Team, please call the College during office hours or email them directly at  This email address is being protected from spambots. We also have access to SchoolTV through our website. SchoolTV is an online resource designed to empower you as parents with credible and sound information with realistic, practical ongoing support strategies. The topic of transition back to school in these times of corona virus is particularly relevant for our families. CLICK HERE to access.

Thursday 21 October 2021 – All Year 7, 10, and 11 students onsite (Yr 12s optional attendance to timetabled classes until exam runs)

Friday 22 October 2021 – All students will return to onsite learning

Cleaning and Hotspots

Following advice of positive cases onsite we have identified ‘hotspots’ and ensured these areas have received a high touch point clean before staff and students return onsite. This included wiping down all desks, chairs, benchtops, doors, railings and the outside surfaces of student lockers. We also cleaned all bathrooms across the College as an added precaution.

These areas are now considered safe and free of any contamination. We encourage all students to continue using hand sanitiser regularly and cleaning down their own tables at the start and/or finish of each lesson.

Primary Close Contacts of Positive Cases

We have emailed the families of any students identified as Primary Close Contacts directly. This email includes instructions for you to follow. Any student who has been identified as a Primary Close Contact will not be able to return to the College without clearance from the Department of Health.

Quarantine Periods – Possibly reduced

There are reports in the media today that quarantine periods may be shortened for fully vaccinated people. At this point we have been advised that shortened quarantined periods must be approved by VIC Health and that you will receive notification from them if your quarantine period is reduced. You will be able to use this notification, along with negative test results to clear you for return to work.

Café Emmaus – Year 9

Please be advised that Café Emmaus will not be operating this week due to staff unavailability so you will be required to bring your own food to school tomorrow, Wednesday and Friday.

You will still have access to the microwaves and toasted sandwich makers. You will just be unable to purchase any food.

VCAA is ensuring every effort is being made to support students sit their exams.  They have designed guidelines for students, schools and supervisors to complete the exams safely. Please read the attached documents explaining how this will occur, including those students who have been identified as Primary Close Contacts:
