Learning Diversity

The Learning Diversity Team:

The Learning Diversity Team at Notre Dame College provides a range of supports for students with learning needs. These needs may stem from a specific learning diagnosis, social/emotional impacts, sensory or physical conditions.

All Learning Diversity students have an Individual Learning Plan which includes information for teachers regarding reasonable adjustments that may be required in the classroom for students to achieve positive outcomes. These adjustments are reviewed regularly and are discussed with the student and their family at the Program Support Group Meeting.

Learning Support Officers (LSO) can provide in class support when required as well as small group and individual support in accordance with teacher direction.

Some other supports the college offers in Learning Diversity are:

  • Rosie our Wellbeing Dog

Rosie is our Notre Dame College wellbeing dog. She has been part of our Notre Dame community for the past twelve months. Evidence suggests that just being near a dog when we are stressed can reduce anxiety, and Rosie is testament to this as she has a calming influence on all students and staff.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) takes place every year.

The NCCD is a collection that counts:

  • the number of school students receiving an adjustment or ‘help’ due to disability
  • the level of adjustment they are receiving to access education on the same basis as other students.

Students are counted in the NCCD if they receive ongoing adjustments at school due to disability. This ‘help’ allows them to access education on the same basis as a child without disability.

The information collected by the NCCD helps teachers, principals, education authorities and governments to better support students with disability at school.
